Sculpture, 20x6x8

Year, 2023

Iranian women's attire has long been celebrated for its elegance and beauty. In Qajar-era paintings, their clothing was renowned for its stunning and intricate decorations. Drawing inspiration from these historical garments, the artist created a piece that contrasts past and present. Instead of traditional fabric embellishments, this artwork employs mosaics, growth patterns, and hair, all set against a base of ceramics shaped like a shoulder pad. The weight and discomfort of this design symbolize the contemporary challenges faced in Iran.

This artwork was selected as one of the pieces for the MACJ Border Biennale, which takes place in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico.

Sculpture,  102x14x18
Year, 2023

Before Mahsa Amini's death, many people around the world might have viewed the lives of Iranian women as idyllic. However, that tragic event brought their harsh and difficult realities into the spotlight. Confronted with immense and enforced pressures, Iranian women are increasingly struggling with depression. This artwork, which incorporates Persian letters, seeks to emphasize the deep cultural roots of Iranian identity. The weight and discomfort of the piece symbolize the heavy burdens these women bear in society. Additionally, the mirrors embedded in the clothing represent an outsider's perspective, suggesting that someone from outside Iran, if born there, would also face similar challenges.

This artwork was selected as one of the pieces for the exhibition at Eastern New Mexico University.

Judgments aimed at altering our course can be deeply painful, and that pain can become unbearable. One cannot truly understand or judge her situation unless they first step into her shoes and walk the path she has tread.
